Montreal Health Food Stores

Print Friendly

Montreal has quite a large choice when it comes to health food stores. Each montreal health food store has something different to offer. Yes, you will find a lot of the same things at each store but you will find different brands and prices for different products at different stores.

You often hear people discussing how buying organic is so expensive and whether it is really worth it or not. If you are shopping at your typical overpriced supermarket such as Metro, IGA or Provigo, like I used to, it is unlikely you are buying organic produce for 2 reasons. The produce is insanely expensive and doesn’t look very nice. However if you decide to visit a respectable montreal health food store you will find that the organic produce is not only appealing but not overpriced. Yes, some items will be more expensive than buying non organic produce at the supermarket but some will even be cheaper than the non-porganic produce you’re used to buying.

Although many people don’t buy organic on a regular basis I believe that if given the choice between the two, cost aside, they would choose organic.

So why not visit a health food store near you and see what they have to offer? Chances are you will be pleasantly surprised.

Here is a list of stores that I recommended visiting if you are interested in shopping for healthy food at good prices in Montreal.

3 Pilliers:  750 Rue Gilford, Montréal, QC H2J 1N7 Visit their site.

Rachelle-Berry: Several locations in the province. The original on the corner of Rachel and Berri also on St-Laurent Blvd corner Villeneuve. Visit their site.

Marche Tau: Several locations to chose from. Downtown Montreal on St-Denis, West-island, Laval, Brossard, St-Leonard. Visit their site.

Bio-Terre: Located in the mile-end. 201 Rue Saint Viateur Ouest  Montreal, QC H2T 2L6 Visit their site.

Jean-Talon Market:  A great place to go all year round but especially in the summer when local produce is in season.

Atwater Market:  I definitely prefer jean-Talon over Atwater in terms of produce and prices but if Atwater market i still a great place to shop at and walk around in.

The stores above are places I have shopped at and definitely recommend visiting. It is by no means a complete list of all the health food stores in Montreal. The rest of the stores listed below are health food stores that I have yet to visit  If you have ben to them and have something to say about them please leave a comment below.

Thank You, Kieran! Just moved here and basically cried myself through Metro last week.

    • I also just moved here and Metro brought tears to my eyes… When I lived in Verdun I shopped at the Fruiterie Vert Pomme on Wellington and this place right near it – the Branche d’Olivier which is incredible for bulk and organic. These two places were quite cheap (which is partly because they’re in Verdun so their rent is probably a lot less than many of the chichi little markets.) There’s also Frenco on Saint-Laurent where you can find everything in bulk you need. A bit expensive, but lovely.

  4. Hi Kieran,

I will be in Montreal on the 4th of November (Eagles concert!). While there I wanted to connect with a health food store or two, as well as a restaurant or two that serves local, seasonal food. Some place we can get a yummy dinner and breakfast too, does not need to be vegetarian, just local-seasonal food would be great.

I am looking to promote my new book: Hands on Health: Take Your Vibrant, Whole Health Back Into Your Healing Hand.

Can you recommend restaurants and health food stores that are near the Bell Center and our hotel on Drummond Street.

I would much appreciate any information. Be well, Paula

      Hi Paula,

I just saw this comment now. I am so sorry I missed you. I was behind on checking the comments.

I would have loved to give you some info on all those things here in montreal. I hope you found some good spots. Where did you go?

Your book sounds interesting. Is it a e-book or published book?

      Sorry again.

      Kieran

      • HI Kieran,

Well, the whole thing turned out to be a comedy of ‘something’, not errors on my part. We were detained at the Cornwall border for over 1 1/2 hours so we missed out on going to dinner at the Commensal, no time! I was planning to connect with people there about my book.

We made the Eagles concert with 2 minutes to spare. Fantastic concert!

Tuesday morning I made a couple of contacts with bookstores around the Bell Center area but I did not chance upon any health food stores, bummer!

My book is eBook, paperback & hard cover. I would be happy to send you a copy if you are interested in reading and reviewing.

Let me know & be well! Paula
