If you love chocolate you are going to love this smoothie. I just tried this for the first time and wow. What a treat. A healthy treat at that. It is by no means a low fat or sugar free treat. However it contains healthy fats and natural sugars. So treat yourself and nourish your body at the same time.
Super easy and loaded with nutrition. In case you didn’t know raw cocoa is extremely healthy for you. It is full of vitamins, minerals and experts claim that it is one of the world’s best sources of antioxidants. I am talking about raw cocoa here, not the chocolate you find in the processed foods you may be addicted too.
The reason I decided to make this smoothie this morning instead of my normal green smoothie is because I made my own almond milk this week and wanted to make something yummy with it. However if for some reason, I can’t imagine why, you don’t have your own homemade almond milk, don’t worry, you can use any non-dairy milk you have bought in the store. You go for the unsweetened kind. I will post a recipe and hopefully a video for homemade almond milk soon enough. And yes I will still be making a green smoothie later.
I made this smoothie pretty thick and I loved it. You could definitely add a bit more milk if you wanted to thin it out a bit. Play with the amount of mint as well. Different people have different tastes.
Raw Chocolate & Mint Smoothie
1/2 cup raw cashews
1/4 raw cacoa nibs
2 tablespoons chopped mint
2 pitted medjool dates
2 cups almond milk (or other non-dairy milk) – or more
4-6 ice cubes
1 teaspoon maca powder (optional)
In an upright blender, add the cashews first and blend a few seconds until they are broken up.
Add the rest of the rest of the ingredients and blend until smooth.
I used 2 cups of almond milk. Feel free to use more if you want it a bit thinner. For a bit of crunch sprinkle a few raw cocao nibs into your glass.
