I have decided to give my system a little break this week, a cleanse of sorts. I am not changing my diet drastically from my normal day to day routine but am simply being more a little more disciplined and conscious of what I eat. This means cutting certain things out all together for 7 days.
The main things I am cutting out completely are alcohol and caffeine. Both alcohol and caffeine are quite demanding on our systems. I don’t drink coffee, but I have found myself drinking black tea more often then I want to be recently. I also have been wanting to do a week without alcohol for a while now, something I find is hard to do unless you really commit to it. Which is what I am doing by sharing it with everybody here. I really think that it will be a nice break for my system and am expecting it to boost my productivity and energy levels.
I am also avoiding all refined sugar with the exception of allowing myself maple syrup in my oatmeal in the mornings. However, I recently discovered how amazing apple butter is in oatmeal instead of sweetener of any kind. Avoiding stimulants such as sugar and caffeine will allow me to focus and feel more balanced.
This means a few more green smoothies then usual, more lemon water, and simple healthy meals. Rice, veggies and beans. I will keep you posted on any good recipes I come up with or try this week. Not that different than usual, simply more of the good stuff, and none of the bad.
I will let you know how the week works out for me, how I feel, and whether I stick with it or not.
If you had to try cutting one thing out of your diet for one week what would you chose and why?
I made this smoothie this morning and loved it! I decided to make it again so that I would have something when I came out of yoga. The second time around I added ginger. Both were delicious. If you like the taste of ginger I suggest throwing some in. This is a great smoothie because it is accessible to anybody with a blender. All the ingredients blend really easily. Enjoy!
Arugula Parsley Flax Green Smoothie
1 cup strawberries
1 cup packed baby arugula
1/2 cup packed, flat leaf parsley
1 cup water
1 tsp flax oil
optional: 1 small chunk of ginger, peeled
Combine all the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. If using fresh strawberries you might want to add a few ice cubes if you are drinking the smoothie right away. Otherwise just put it in the fridge or freezer for a little bit until it is cold.
