Today’s post is a guest post by Hazel, one of the members of our wonderful 30 Day Smoothie Challenge community. Throughout the challenge, Hazel was a huge part and contributor to the Smoothie Support group on Facebook. She posted incredible green smoothie recipe after green smoothie recipe with photos on a regular basis. I am very happy to have her sharing her experience with us. On top of that, she is also sharing one of her delicious recipes!
It has been 2 months since the smoothie challenge. I hope you guys have continued on with the healthy habits you developed during the 30 days. Please let me know how you are doing in the comments below!
What was the best part of the 30 Day Smoothie Challenge for you? What was your favourite recipe?
Inspiration Motivation…I LOVE food, photography and Facebook! The 30 day smoothie challenge motivated me daily to create new smoothies, give ‘em a fun name, snap a pic, and best of all, post to the FB smoothie support group—with daily feedback and recipes!
A few of my friends started juicing. I liked the idea, but I didn’t have a juicer nor did I have the money to invest in one. I had a decent blender (that I hadn’t used in months), came across Health is Happiness and saw the 30day smoothie challenge…PERFECT timing, just in time to start the challenge. I wanted to improve my eating habits, especially after making the big decision to train for a half marathon. And so it began, 30 days of fun-filled ideas and sharing recipes with an amazing FB support group, who encouraged me daily.
As my friends heard about the challenge, I excitedly explained that “green smoothies taste fabulous, you don’t even taste the spinach/kale!” Friends would ask, “When are we having a smoothie party?” or “I want all the recipes.” My favorite was “she puts leaves and tree bark in that Vitamix!” In fact, this weekend, I will be making a green smoothie for two of my running buddies after our next 8 mile run! What better way to hydrate, boost energy, and consume protein!
My typical smoothie before this challenge included fresh strawberries, blueberries, yogurt, and apple juice—same ole boring smoothie (Don’t get me wrong, I loved it…for a few days). Who knew that adding greens to your smoothie would taste absolutely amazing, oh and without the yogurt or juice! I was able to get my daily fruit and veggie servings, make better food choices during the challenge, and even lose a few pounds.
I moved up in the smoothie world…the death of my blender onto a Vitamix (which my Mom STILL asks about the challenge and when I will be returning her blender, haa!), the collection of glasses and mason jars, and adding SUPER ingredients and supplements like raw cacao nibs, flaxseed, medjool dates, hemp protein, chia seeds, and maca powder—I feel smart just saying those aloud!
I have many favorite recipes and I find it impossible to choose just one. If Kieran allowed me, I would’ve posted all of them! Today I chose the “Ultimate Emerald” but the thing is, none of my smoothies are alike. I couldn’t help but add to it! The possibilities are endless. You will NEVER get tired of drinking the same smoothie!
