Raspberry Lemon Hemp Smoothie

IMG_7891

Raspberry and lemon, a match made in heaven.  If you have all these ingredients in your kitchen right now I suggest you make this today! If you don’t, then I highly recommend adding them to your shopping list this week.  The tartness of the raspberries and lemons remind me of a raspberry sorbet.  Meaning it’s delicious!!

This makes for a perfect snack when you need a little energy boost or for a sweet tangy treat to fulfil a craving.  It would also make a refreshing treat on a hot summers day.

Because it reminds me of sorbet, I’m imagining you could reduce the amount of water and/or increase the amount of hemp seeds to transform it into a pudding of sorts. That way, you can eat with a spoon instead of drink.  I am sure it would be equally delicious.  Let me know if you give it a try.  Could make for a great dessert. Continue reading

Spiced Nut, Seed and Date Energy/Power Bars Recipe

These are a great mid morning or afternoon snack.  Replace that un-healthy snack such as a chocolate bar, cookie, donut, muffin etc with these delicious bars.  They are a much healthier way to tide you over to your next meal, as well as satisfy your sweet tooth without turning to a processed snack.

There is currently a 30 day challenge taking place at Moksha NDG which is where I practice  yoga on a regular basis.  While not participating in this 30 day yoga challenge myself, I have previously completed 30 day challenges on 2 separate occasions and am well aware of how demanding they can be in many ways.  Proper nutrition is always important but especially so when doing 30 days in a row of hot yoga.  These bars are a great snack for those taking part in the 30 day challenge or anyone else who does a lot of physical activity. Raw Cocoa, Almond, Coconut Energy Bars

How often do you find yourself feeling hungry and/or tired during the day? What do you do when that moment hits? Your stomach is asking for food and you don’t have anything healthy close by. The majority of easily available food isn’t very healthy. Even a lot of the so called “healthy” options such as store bought energy bars contain lots of added sugar, among other things I would prefer not to eat.

These homemade energy bars are made from 100% whole food and are 100% raw. Meaning you are getting more nutrients from your bar.

Did I mention these bars taste delicious too. They are really easy to make as well.

Although these bars contain better quality ingredients that are more expensive and more nutritious than the ingredients in most store bought bars you will save money by choosing these bars over store bought bars.

Better quality more nutritious food for less. Sounds good to me. What do you think?

They taste so good you could almost serve them as dessert. I know that might get some of you more interested.

Raw Cocoa, Almond, Coconut Energy Bars

1 cup almonds
1/3 cup chia seeds
1/4 cup unsweetened shredded coconut
1/4 cup raw cocoa nibs
5 medjool dates, pitted

In a food processor, process almonds until they are ground up. Not so much that they are fine powder but enough so that there aren’t any major chunks. Add the rest of the ingredients and process until everything is ground up and well mixed.

The mixture should stick together when you pinch a little bit between your fingers.

You can either make the mixture into balls or bars. To make bars I layed the mixture onto some parchment paper and lay it into a 8 x 4 loaf pan. Flatten out the mixture by pressing it with your hands.

Once you have an even flat rectangle put it in the fridge and let cool for a few hours. Cut into bars all at once or as your want to eat them.

Fennel Lime Strawberry Smoothie

Tangy. Sweet. Refreshing. Thirst quenching. Those are the words that come to mind when I drink this fennel lime strawberry smoothie.

It also makes me think of summer even though it’s not very warm in Montreal right now.  It’s actually really cold for April 28th.

Although it’s cold out, it is beautiful and I couldn’t be happier. I am sitting in my kitchen, as the sun shines through the windows, and evening begins to set in, sipping on my smoothie, writing this post and listening to music.  Warm days are ahead. Days where a refreshing smoothie like this one will be just perfect.
