Peach Mango Kale Green Smoothie

If you forced me to tell you what my 2 favourite fruits were, I would have to answer peaches and mangos. I love eating them on their own, but I also love a peach or mango smoothie. Or, in this case, combining the two, throwing in some greens and bam! You have yourself a sweet green smoothie.

Peach season is upon us! That time of year here in Montreal where Ontario peaches are everywhere, at markets and grocery stores. Makes me so happy to see them back. What is sad is how quickly they disappear and remind me that summer is coming closer to an end. A bittersweet feeling since fall is one of my favourite seasons.

Mint, Parsley, Arugula & Fruit Green Smoothie

Since the new year I have been making a conscious effort to experiment more with my smoothies. This goes for my green smoothies as well as my non green smoothies. I have been doing my best to keep track of them all. Working on tweaking the recipes and making them the best they can be, sharing my favourites here on Health is Happiness. What does this mean? It means I will be sharing quite a few smoothie recipes here on the blog in the weeks and months to come. I will be sure to keep posting delicious non-smoothie recipes as well. Hopefully I can inspire a few more people to give heathy smoothies a try. Quite a few people have been telling me recently that they tried making a green smoothie for the first time and loved it. This makes me very happy.

I am enjoying experimenting with all these new smoothies, finding out what I like and what I don’t. The reason I committed myself to doing this is that I was into the routine of making the same smoothies most of the time. Don’t get me wrong, I love the smoothies I was making and am not going to stop making them. My go to greens are still kale, swiss chard, and spinach, as well as collard greens, when I can find them. The fruit I use most are strawberries and bananas. I am going to try and switch it up and mix different greens with different fruit.

Papaya Mint Lime Arugula Green Smoothie

Papaya isn’t something that I have eaten much of in my life. The last time I bought papaya, it wasn’t good, which I think turned me off. What made me decide to give it a try again? About 2 weeks ago I tried a smoothie at the Yoga studio with papaya in it, and it was delicious.

The next time I was at the market, I picked up a papaya, and decided to give it another chance. I made sure to let it ripen completely, which I think might have been the problem the last time I tried papaya. Not quite ripe. Yuck.

Once the papaya was ripe, I cut it open and removed the interesting looking seeds inside and scooped out all the flesh. Pretty good actually, and even better in a green smoothie.

Arugula, Orange, Strawberry, Apple Green Smoothie

If you are anything like me, you always have apples around in the kitchen at this time of year.  If you don’t you should ,because it’s apple season.  Apple are great for making green smoothies.  We all know apples are great fruits to bring with us as snacks, but why not try something different.  There are so many different uses for apples in the kitchen.  One of my favourites from childhood to this day is apple crisp.  If you missed it, check out my recent vegan cranberry apple pecan crisp recipe.

This is one recipe for an apple green smoothie, but I encourage you to experiment with different combinations of other fruits and greens.  I don’t peel the apples when blending them because I use a Vitamix, but if you don’t have a high powered blender,  I would recommend peeling the apples before blending them. Peach and Swiss Chard Green Smoothie Recipe

Peaches from Ontario, swiss chard from the garden and water from the tap.

Does everyone love peaches as much as I do? They are so good. So juicy. Fresh Ontario peaches are one of my favorite things about the month of August. The season doesn’t last long so make sure you get out there and buy some peaches.

Does everyone love swiss chard as much as I do? Somehow I don’t think as many of you will be answering yes to that question. That’s ok. The more you use chard the more it will grow on you. The same goes for the rest of the leafy greens. Continue reading

Mango, Raspberry, Carrot Top Green Smoothie Recipe

I bet that if you have ever bought carrots with the green tops still attached you have thrown them out.  Am I right?  Did you even ever consider eating them?

In case some of you didn’t know carrot greens are loaded with nutrients.  They are rich in protein, vitamins and minerals, even more than their sweet roots.  For example, carrot greens contain 6 times more vitamin C than carrots.  They are also a great source of potassium and calcium.

Like all leafy greens they are loaded with chlorophyll, which has been noted to purify the blood, lymph nodes and adrenal glands. Continue reading

Living Your Moksha- Be Healthy Smoothie

Posting live from Moksha NDG. Green smoothies for everyone who comes out of class this evening made by Nat and myself.

Today is the first day of Living Your Moksha. 7 Weeks, 7 Challenges to inspire your life.

The first week is Be Heatlhy. Which is why Nat, Raquel, and I decided to make 40 litres of smoothie today to kick off the challenge.

For those of you in the middle of the 30 day Moksha challenge this smoothie will rejuvenate you and boost your energy and immune system.

The smoothie features banana, strawberry, swiss chard, lemon, and ginger.  It’s great to see so many people who have never tried a green smoothie before giving them a try.

Going to go give out some more green smoothies now. More pictures and videos to come later from the evening here at Moksha NDG.

Living Your Moksha Be Healthy Smoothie

1 large banana
150 g strawberries (about 6-8 medium)
160 g swiss chard (about 2 leaves)
juice of 1/2 lemon
1 1/2 cups of water
a little piece of fresh ginger (peeled)

Put all the ingredients in an upright blender and blend until smooth.

Remember you can adjust the proportions to your taste. Feel free to start with more fruit or if your daring more ginger or swiss chard.

Enjoy in the morning for breakfast or after an awesome yoga class.
