Coconut Cashew Apricot Energy Bar Recipe


When I am hungry, really hungry, I need to eat ASAP. When we get to this point when we absolutely need to eat something, we tend to go for whatever is easiest and closest. This is often when we grab something less than ideal health wise just to satisfy our hunger.

A very common solution while at work is to head over to the vending machine around 3 pm for a little pick me up to get through the rest of the day. I know I used to do this when I worked in an office.

This energy bar recipe or others like it are a great way to avoid falling into that trap. When you are prepared for the hunger you can reach for something healthy that is still delicious! And I promise you that these coconut cashew apricot energy bars are just that.

Mango Peach Coconut Water Smoothie

I know what you are thinking? “Is this smoothie as delicious as it looks and sounds?” Well, the answer is yes. It’s lip smacking good. It’s a mango peach coconut water smoothie. Of course it’s amazing!

With only 3 ingredients, it is very simple. Sometimes we get carried away when making smoothies, throwing everything and the kitchen sink into the blender, hoping to get as much into our smoothie as possible. If you do this, you know exactly what I am talking about. It isn’t always the best approach.

When you have exerted a lot of energy, and sweat a ton, the first thing your body needs is to replenish its glucose stores, and electrolytes. What better way to do this than with a delicious fruit and coconut water smoothie! Try drinking a smoothie like this one as soon as possible after your next workout, then follow up with a well balanced meal about 45 minutes to an hour later. Continue reading

Healthy Post Workout Smoothie; Orange Hemp Maca Smoothie Recipe

The gym used to be a huge part of my life.  From the age of 17-27 I went to the gym religiously several times a week, and I loved it.  I couldn’t imagine my life without the gym.  Going to the gym wasn’t something I had to force myself to do, it was something I did with pleasure, because it made me feel great.

Then, I discovered yoga.  Over the past 2 years, yoga seems to have taken over from the gym.  During the first year I was practicing yoga I still went to the gym on and off, but yoga changed the way I felt about the gym and it slowly started to take over.

The last time I went to a gym was over a year ago, and then today I went back.  I had stopped going completely after  breaking my elbow, and then going back too soon for my elbow, which was still giving me pain in the gym.  When I tried to go back to the gym, I could still feel pain in my elbow so decided to give it more time.  During this time yoga became an even bigger part of my life, and now I couldn’t imagine my life without yoga.  Community is a very important part of life.  Surrounding yourself with like minded people who share many of the same values as you is really nice.
