Appetizer Guaranteed to Please the Party: Tomato Basil Bruschetta

Undeniably delicious. Scrumptiously satisfying. Tantalizingly tasty. Straight up really good!

A few simple ingredients come together on a crispy piece of bread for a party in your mouth. A party that will keep the guests at your party coming back for more. This is one of the most crowd pleasing appetizers in my repertoire. My smoky black bean dip being another one vying for top spot.

Bruschetta is simply grilled bread rubbed with olive oil and garlic. Tomato basil is probably the most popular topping here in North America for bruschetta. Another one of my favourite toppings is mashed white beans with garlic and rosemary. So many possibilities!

I wonder what they do in Italy. I will have to investigate when I go there for the first time in a week! That’s right, I am going to Italy! Continue reading

Perfectly Roasted Potato Wedges

One ingredient and one ingredient only in this recipe. Potatoes. Wash them. Dry them. Cut them. Roast them. Boom. Perfectly roasted potato wedges. Simple and delicious. They can be enjoyed on their own or with your favourite condiment or to accompany a main meal like some delicious veggie chilli.

That chilli recipe is one of my first posts ever on this site. I can’t believe just over a year has gone by since then. Time flies. I have learnt a lot since then and have so much more to learn about this thing called food blogging. Thanks for joining me on my journey and I hope you have been inspired to cook some of the recipes that I have shared on this site.

It is below -20 C here in Montreal this week. Nothing like a big bowl of warming chili and potato wedges when it’s this cold out. Serve the chilli on top of the wedges for some chilli fries. Truly healthy and delicious comfort food. Continue reading

Can Eating Sprouts Improve Your Health?

I am starting to get more and more into the world of sprouting and micro greens. When I found out that eating sprouts is incredibly healthy as well as delicious I was very interested. Growing sprouts at home is really easy. The other day “made” some sunflower sprouts, meaning I sprouted some sunflower seeds. The easiest process in the world. Once they were ready instead of using them in a dish I decided to just eat them as a snack.

They were delicious. One of the simplest and healthiest snacks you can eat. Sprouts are very low in calories and extremely high in nutrients. That sounds like a good deal for my health. The kind of food I want to be a eating.

I see that you can find all types of sprouts in most grocery stores now, not only health food stores. This is great for when you haven’t had the time to prepare any at home.

Sprouting at home is really easy and much much cheaper than buying them in the store. It also means you get the freshest sprouts possible.

Popped Amaranth Cereal

I have done this a few times now.  I will admit it isn’t easy. I am working on mastering it.  It is delicious though.

Requires having your pot at exactly the right temperature and putting the right amount of amaranth into the pot (which depends on the surface area of your pot.  If it’s too hot or not hot enough you will end up with burnt amaranth.

The good news is that it only takes a few seconds and is fun to do.  Nice to make your own cereal. You know exactly what is in it.
